HeartGifts:  Artists Supporting Doctors Without Borders 
 An exhibition and benefit auction for Doctors Without Borders

Many of us have long been aware of the compassionate work done worldwide by Doctors Without Borders to alleviate suffering caused by epidemics, malnutrition, natural disasters, armed conflict, or exclusion from medical care. Many of us have also yearned to help this worthy cause. We are therefore delighted to announce HeartGifts, a fundraiser to be held on 24 September 2011 featuring Artists Supporting Doctors Without Borders. 

Our goal is to raise funds for Doctors Without Borders, some through an art show and auction, and the remainder through direct donation and sponsorship. Sixty concerned artists have donated one of their works for auction.  These artists include James Michalopoulos, Tyrell Collins, Catherine Mackey, Silvia Poloto, John Wood, and Mimi Jensen, whose works are currently being actively acquired.  The auction will be held on Saturday, September 24th at SOMArts, 934 Brannan, San Francisco, CA from 6-9pm. This is what your generosity will help Doctors Without Borders accomplish:
  • $100 can purchase insecticide treated mosquito nets to protect people living in malaria endemic regions.
  • $210 can purchase enough vaccine to inoculate 102 children aged 6 months to 15 years old against measles, which kills half a million children a year.
  • $300 can purchase equipment to chlorinate enough water to provide 1,330 people with 20 gallons of clean water per day for 30 days.
  • $500 can purchase treatment for five people with tuberculosis for six months.
  • 1000 can purchase sustainable shelter for four displaced families.
